Tech & Innovation Powering India’s Creator Economy: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw recently highlighted the transformative shift underway in India’s creator economy, emphasizing how technology and innovation are redefining the media and entertainment landscape.

Addressing a gathering of representatives from over 20 national and regional media outlets, Vaishnaw spotlighted the evolving nature of content creation and distribution. He noted that traditional models are being swiftly replaced by digital-first approaches, enabling creators from remote regions like Jharkhand and Kerala to produce and distribute high-quality content to a global audience.

“The entire landscape has shifted. Creators, no matter where they are, now have access to the tools and platforms to reach millions. This opens doors to new opportunities but also presents new challenges,” he remarked.

Vaishnaw reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing this rapidly growing creator economy, acknowledging the vital role digital creators play in shaping India’s global image. He also emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently recognized and supported the contributions of digital talent in elevating India’s voice on the world stage.

A key focus of his address was the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), set to be held in Mumbai from May 1 to 4. Vaishnaw described WAVES as a first-of-its-kind global platform designed to unite content creators, buyers, and industry stakeholders — with the potential to become the World Economic Forum of the entertainment sector.

“WAVES aims to scale creative ideas and connect India’s talent with international markets,” he said, noting that WAVES 2025 has already crossed one lakh registrations, signaling immense interest and participation from the creative community.

The summit will also feature prestigious awards recognizing trailblazers and innovators shaping the future of global content.

Joining Vaishnaw, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and open dialogue across stakeholders. He reassured the media community of the ministry’s ongoing support in building an inclusive, future-ready media and entertainment ecosystem.

With government backing and tech-driven disruption, India’s creator economy is poised for unprecedented global impact — and WAVES could be the launchpad.
